    is that perlite floating on water? and you will plant in it?

    • @ProjectHomeGrown
      @ProjectHomeGrown 2 месяца назад

      So its a square raft I built out of polystyrene, there are wholes drilled in the bottom with 100mm net pots, then it is filled with perlite. So the frame is floating ontop of the water but the perlite also floats. Even when waterlogged. So this is a DWC version of a wicking floating media bed. We are testing everything from potatoes toe onions in this one.

    I’m confused why you use compost. From what I’ve read you would want to use a soiless media with no inert material.

    • @ProjectHomeGrown
      @ProjectHomeGrown 6 месяцев назад

      The inert material is just so the cutting where there is technicly a wound don't become infected with fungus bacteria ext. It helps the cutting stay healty during the root establishment. You can use a wide variety of media for rooting. I use compost because if they root the nutrients are available and I can leace the cuttins in the bags untill I eventually can transplant them.

  • @lukeott58
    @lukeott58 7 месяцев назад

    I’m curious about peach trees. How do they grow on their own root systems. Every peach tree that I’ve grown were grafted onto a different rootstock. Please explain

    • @ProjectHomeGrown
      @ProjectHomeGrown 6 месяцев назад

      Hello Luke sorry for only replying now. So they graft the peaches to make them bare fruit faster. Cuttings are basicly the same thing, but with rooting cuttings you dont have a tap root where as if you graft onto a rootstock you have a stronger root system. Both will give fruit faster than just growing from the seed itself.

    Thank you for this video! Do you have an update on your peach cuttings? The OTHER and best reason for cutting the top at a slant is so that water rolls off and does not pool at the top, which can cause rot or introduce disease. Sealing it, however, makes it unnecessary. I recommend sealing it to help with moisture loss.
